Life can get c-r-a-z-y or as we say in my house... Cray Cray!!
Especially during the holidays, right?
Boy, was that one of the biggest understatements of all time?
Sure sounded like it, huh?
I'm not sure about you, but when my life gets cray cray one of the first things I tend to neglect, forget, or pass by... Quiet time with God!
My mind can become so cluttered with everything I need to get done, that I hit the floor running and never look back.
There is so much to get done that I forget the best place to be is in quiet time, visiting and talking with the one who 'knows the plans He has for me'. (Jeremiah 29:11).
Instead, I'm so focused on what I need to do, I don't take time to hear what God needs or wants me to do.
Interestingly enough, as busy as He was, Jesus seemed to always find a way to be alone with his Father in prayer.
I mean we are talking about a man whose schedule was extremely full! Both his work and social calendars were penned and penciled to death. Every day had something on it!
He had thousands of clients! Blind clients, Paralyzed clients, Dead clients who needed brought back to life, Needy clients wanting to touch Him, not to mention 12 men whom He mentored regularly. He had clients everywhere!
He traveled A LOT! Jerusalem, Bethany, Bethlehem, Jericho, just to name a few. Traveling and teaching by boats and on boats, walking, walking, and did I say walking?. He was always on the move, He had things to get done!
He prepared and presented a TON of lessons! The Sermon on the mount, Forty-six parable lessons, talking with the Pharisees, teaching in the temples, teaching His friends... He was always teaching. Talk about busy.
He had dinners to prepare! Turning water into wine, feeding the poor, feeding 5000 people, feeding 4000 people, feeding multitudes of people, seriously that's a lot of food!
He had Dinner Invitations to attend to! Wedding feasts, being invited to the pharisees' homes, dinner with a tax collector, dinner with prostitutes, dinners with sinners, having The Last Supper. His social calendar wasn't blank, that's for sure!
I mean, this guy was really busy and yet, He ALWAYS found time to spend quietly with His Father! Always! Heck, He even found time to pray among the busyness!
Time and time again we are told, Jesus prayed.
Here are just a few of those times...
Matthew 14:23 after His work was finished
Mark 1:35 early in the morning
Luke 6:12 all night
Luke 22:41 with others
Jesus needed and made time to be still, talk with, and pray to God; so what makes me think I don't need the same thing?
If the Son of God needed time with God and MADE time for God, what the heck am I thinking when I think I am too busy or have too much to get done?
Making time for God doesn't have to be hard. Five minutes. That's it. It can be as simple as Five minutes. Does God want more of my time? You betcha!
But something tells me, deep down, that if I will start with just five minutes, I will desire more time, longer time with Him.
Shoot, I have five minutes while I'm brushing my teeth to just say, 'Good morning Lord! It's going to be a pretty hectic day, but thanks for being here with me and for giving me this day."
I have five minutes when I'm standing in line at the grocery store to pull up that Bible app, I downloaded a month ago, and get my dose of God's word!
I have five minutes while I'm sitting in the dentist office waiting room to simply talk with God about what's been happening today!
Five minutes? Hmm, spending time with God doesn't seem so hard.
Guess what? I'm still busy, but suddenly I've started spending ALL DAY talking with and being with God!
Life sure is cray cray, but time with God doesn't have to be just one more thing on my to do list!
I've got five minutes!
