For many months when my sons were younger, they played this game...well for them it wasn't a game but I didn't know what else to call it, so I dubbed it a game. For them, it was about solving problems, as they saw them, or creating things that would make life fun, better, exciting.
They were very curious boys and were always asking questions (OK, OK, if I'm honest, they are still always asking questions) but in particular, 'what if' questions were the most popular.
"What if we had cars that could fly up into space?"
"What if money DID grow on trees?"
"What if we could live on Mars?"
"What if we are just in a big video game?"
"What if...."
"What if..."
"What if..."
I would tolerate the what if questions for a bit and then I would start begging them to stop! Can't we play the what if game later? Why don't we stop the what if's for a bit. I'm done with the what if's. What if we don't play the what if game right now?
Well, here it is several years later and BAM!! The what if's have come back and I'm caught off guard!
I'm sitting in church and my pastor asks the following question; Are you a 'what if' person?
What did he say? What did he say?
He said, "Are you a what if person?"
Folks, ya could've picked my jaw up off the floor, because that's where it was! All the times I spent begging my kids to stop asking what if and now, my pastor is telling me that's the kind of person God is, Jesus is and wants us to be.
He says that's how things in the world get changed. How growth happens. How problems get solved.
We need to be asking "what if..."
We need to be thinking "what if..."
Through the entire sermon, all I could think was how I stifled my children's God given gift of being what if people!
Well, the good news is, when I told my boys what I'd been thinking, they told me they were still what if people!
WHEW!! Disaster averted!
The message was very powerful and left me thinking; Am I a what if person?
My answer would have to be YES! I just never realized Jesus was a 'what if' guy, 'what if' could be used to implement change, or that 'what if' is something I could and should act on!
What if I showed a greater kindness even to people who were not kind to me?
What if I did something instead of waiting for someone else to do something?
What if my smile saves a life?
What if I need to be offering my spouse more grace?
What if my what if's change the world?
"What if..."
"What if..."
"What if..."
What if I share the link to Charlie's message? What if it moves you like it's moving me?
What if you check it out....here (the What if part actually starts at time marker 25:50 or what if you decide to experience the entire service!?)
So, are you a what if person?
What are your what if's?
What if....you shared them?
Hmmm....what if...
