Let me just say, for the record, some of the things I get myself into are simply flops!
I know that must be really difficult to believe, but it's true,
I promise you.
No, really! FLOPS!! Several of them as a matter of fact.
Take for instance, the re-purposing of old tires into tables. Saw it on Pinterest, loved it, wanted to do it!
I did some research, found some instructions online and started collecting my supplies.
I had the tops, thanks to a couple of garage sales where I bought those cute little wood accent tables (for 75 cents each, woot, woot!!), remove the legs and voila. The tops were the perfect size!

I bought three 25 yard bags of roping. I had a tire (okay three tires) that my ex had laying around, a hot glue gun (just like in the picture), a sealer for after I was finished, and self threading screws.
And I began!
I screwed the top onto the tire! It fit very nicely! Just as I thought, perfect!
I was so excited! It was going to be so cool to have this table sitting on my patio!
I began wrapping that rope around and around! It was going very well until...
Until 75 yards of roping didn't even cover half of ONE tire! It barely covered a third of the tire. What the heck?
I was more than a bit dismayed. That rope was not cheap! The glue sticks were not much better as far as cost!
I thought this was supposed to be a frugal recycling project?
Now what?
Well, I guess I had two options
1- Go buy the rest of the materials and finish, even though that was going to cost me way more than I had planned for or imagined it would be.
OR
2- Forget it! Just stop and not finish.
I decided not to do either one of those. Instead, I put it on my back patio and thought to myself,
"Self, let's just put it out on the patio and give it a couple of days and then we can decide what to do."
Now, that was a plan. Never make hasty decisions, especially when you are dismayed, that's my motto! <wink, wink>
Well there were a couple of things I didn't take into consideration when I made this fabulous plan, the weather and well, the weather.

Well there were a couple of things I didn't take into consideration when I made this fabulous plan, the weather and well, the weather.
- The temperature-Summer is hot! I know, you'd think I would have remembered that! My rope, after two days, was sliding off of the tire! Apparently, the heat of summer is not a good mix for the hot glue, so it simply melted right off.
- Rain- I didn't check the forecast, and therefore didn't realize it was going to rain the night I put the tire on the patio. After the rain, the top warped and started to mold in two days!
The decision of whether or not to finish was no longer mine; it had been decided for me.
Epic fail!
What I didn't know but wish I had:
Not to worry though, I have something brewing in the background just waiting to be completed! Stay tuned because these tires will become something AWESOME!

Epic fail!
What I didn't know but wish I had:
- The tire projects I saw online were probably for indoor use and not meant for outdoors
- I needed smaller tires (don't use Blazer tires! Find tires from a small car)
- Use outdoor adhesive if you plan on using the tires outdoors
- Nylon rope, not twine, would probably be better for an outdoor table
- Don't set your project outside before it is finished unless you check the weather first
- Take everything into consideration before starting! The cost was probably going to be a lot more than I anticipated. I don't think I took everything into consideration before I started.

My Mr. Right says it took guts to write about something I failed at. Do you think it takes guts to tell others when we fail? What do you think about sharing your failures with others? Is it something you could do?
